1. Leaving hoses connected during winter.
Hoses can cause damage when left out all year long. Not only is it terrible for your hose, but it could freeze your water supply wipe.
2. Using vent pipes for anything other than venting.
Many homeowners use their vent pipes to run TV cable down the plumbing vent because it comes up through their roof. However, the purpose of a vent pipe is to provide air to drain inside the house, it can also get rid of sewer gases that come from the city’s sewer main. If your someone who has cut a hole in your vent inside the house to run a cable through, you could potentially be tapping into an endless supply of your neighbor’s sewer air. But hey at least you have a nice picture on the TV, right?
3. Using too much drain cleaner.
Drain cleaners can be effective if used judiciously and on the right clog. If not, it can corrode some drain materials and even make the clog even worse, which is not a pretty picture when the plumber has to come and clear the clog.
4. Pouring chemicals (and other bad stuff) into a septic system.
If your someone who has just bought a house with a septic tank then you probably wouldn’t think twice about using chemicals such as drain cleaner, anti-bacterial soaps, and chlorine bleach. These chemicals are harmful to the system because the chemicals kill the essential waste-eating bacteria in the septic tank.
5. Screwing, nailing or cutting into a wall with hidden plumbing pipes.
If you do this with a screw you could potentially risk a fine spray of water hitting the back of the drywall.
6. Joining two different metals in piping.
Joining two metals such as copper and steel could lead to corrosion. Corrosion can lead to leaks.
7. Pouring grease down the kitchen drain.
If you have a habit of pouring bacon grease down the drain, then you need to stop immediately. Pouring grease down the drain is one of the best things you can do if you’re looking to clog your drain.
