Leaking Drains

Leaking Drains

Drain leaks are commonly found in kitchens and bathrooms.

They usually occur at the drain or at the slip joints in the drainpipe. Hidden behind boxes and bottles, these leaks can cause major damage to your flooring, cabinets, and even your ceilings below before you even have a chance to notice them.

Here are some signs that you may have a drain leak.

1. Signs of trouble:
Some signs you can look out for if you think you may have a drain leak include puddles, water stains, or odor in your cabinets. Other signs could be loose or damaged flooring in front of the sink.

2. How to find the source:
One way you can find the source is by filling the sink bowls then as they drain check all your joints from the sink to the wall with a dry tissue. Another way to run and drain the dishwasher and check the waste hose connection.

If you notice puddles near your water heater this could be your sign that you have a leak. Check the pressure relief valve and drain valve.

If either of the valves is dripping, then they must be replaced. If not and the tank it is leaking, then this means that your water heater needs to be replaced. However, you shouldn’t delay this major plumbing issue.

Tank leaks often start out slow, but they will suddenly burst days or weeks later which can cause a major household flood.
